Sky promotions scam

Just had a call from sky promotions offering me 40% off my current packages for paying my bills on time!!!
I pushed when being asked security questions and then asked his name which he gave as Oscar James.

After more pushing he hung up on me.

It's unlikely to have been a genuine Sky call. An offer of a 40% discount is much more likely to have come from a scammer. Did you give him any personal information?

No. You just had a call saying they were Sky Promotions. It's a regular ploy used by scammers. 

They try to obtain sufficient details so that they can order an expensive mobile phone under your details which subsequently gets sent to your address. The scammers then recontact you saying they've made a mistake and to send it to a (non Sky) address. They then have the device and you have the bill.

With any unexpected calls from Sky if the caller asks for your telephone password to confirm you're the account holder (which a genuine Sky agent should) initially give an INCORRECT one on purpose. If the caller doesn't challenge it then you know it'll be a scam call.

We had a call purporting to be Sky Promotions saying they would reduce our bill to £66 for 12 maths, no new contracts, just a reward for being a long standing customer. I was then passed to man, both sounded Indian, who said that they'd had some technical problems?? and wanted to give me an iPad or a Samsung tablet as compensation. The only info I offered was my email and postcode, no passwords, Sky account number or bank details.  Told me someone would ring me back to help me through the app to access my free gift! A quick google search brought me to this page so when we were rung back I told him I wasn't interested in the scam and hung up.  Thanks for all the info.

That is a scam that is very common as it is designed to capture your accounts details as per this:

Even though you have given them no passwords I would still change your password and keep an eye on your Sky account.
