Payment towards virgin bill when switching to sky

I have switched from Virgin media to Sky as of 28th, however my Virgin doesn't disconnect until 15th, as per their 30 day notice period.

When I rang sky to discuss becoming a 

customer in January, I was told that any bill I received from virgin after my sky activation date would be covered by SKY.

How do I do this ?
