Re: Loss of Eurosport

I completly disagree.

My contract is with SKY not WB. Sky set the prices and chose how they bundle the channels. Sky negotiate the cost with the content publishers. They dont just 'provide the platform' . I entered into a contract in  good faith for a service from SKY and when that services utulity  is permently & significantly   reduced SKY should mitigate for the remaining duration of that contract. They should either offer a reduction in the fee or offer the channels that the Eurosport content has been migated to FOC.

And what does the contract say about such changes?

Realistically, the best you are going to achieve is a penalty-free exit if you can convince them...

Re: Loss of Eurosport

To me Sky never really look after their existing customers.  All deals they offer seem to be for new customers only and why has the contract lengthened.  It always used to be eighteen months which it is with Virgin Media but now it is two years, why?  As far as I am concerned Sky are not offering the same deal that they offered when I renewed my contract and therefore it should be null and void but of course Sky will never think this no matter how many years or how much money they have had out of you.  It doesn't really come across as excellent customer care does it?  To be expected to pay £29 to watch something that was previously free to view is totally ridiculous and it is Sky to blame not Warner Brothers because it is Sky who I pay my money too.

Yes you pay your money to Sky but as the closured channels aren't owned by Sky there is little they can do if the channel owner closes the channel.

WBD could have easily made a TNT Sports 5 and 6 channel as rebrands of Eurosport and offered that as it currently does but they chose not to do that. The reality in the current climate is that practically all sports is now seen as premium content mainly due to sports being really the only content watched live and thus the channels owners are still able to get decent ad rates during live sporting content unlike with the majority of other programming. Even with decent ad rates for live sport that still doesn't come close to covering the production costs and the broadcasting rights for the majority of sports which is another likely reason behind the closure of the free Eurosport channels.

As I keep saying, you're best outcome will be a release from any contract without any exit charges.  The channel is no longer 'free'.

Re: Loss of Eurosport

Just looking and the Sky contract says this.

"How long your Contract lasts
Unless Condition 11(a) or (b) apply or you end your Contract and immediately enter a new one, you must
subscribe to the Service for at least the Minimum Term and you cannot cancel your subscription during the
Minimum Term. If you do not subscribe to the Service for at least the Minimum Term you will breach these
Conditions. The Contract will continue after the Minimum Term unless it is ended according to the Conditions
below. Conditions 5, 6 and 7 will continue to apply after this Contract ends until you return your Viewing Card to
SSSL. If you do not currently take a Sky Premium Contract Pack and you want to add one to your Option, you will
need to agree a new Minimum Term for your Service.
(a) You may end this Contract at any time including the Minimum Term by giving us 7 days’ notice within 21 days’ of
receiving notice from us if:
(i) we or SSSL tell you we are going to change these Conditions under Condition 10(b) and you reasonably
consider that you would be materially disadvantaged by this; or
(ii) we withdraw any Sky Premium Channel, Stand-alone Premium Channel or premium bonus channel
you chose so that you would be left with no standard definition or high definition variant of the
Channel or collection of channels (as applicable) or are unable to receive the content as part of your
chosen Option;

(iii) we withdraw any Monthly Add-on you are currently receiving, unless you can still access the channels
or category of On Demand content you received as part of that Monthly Add-on as part of your
Option; or
(iv) you reasonably consider that you would be materially disadvantaged by any reduction in the overall
level of service of your chosen Basic Pack, or any reduction in the number of Channels within your chosen
Monthly Add-on.
You may end this Contract by giving us 7 days’ notice at any time (including during the Minimum Term) if we or
SSSL break any of the Conditions. If you want to end the Contract for any other reason you may do so at the end
of or after the Minimum Term, by giving us at least 31 days’ notice at any time."

(iv) would suggest you can end the contract early.

No an email to customers would be easy to do . I'm a platinum sky user but will be looking at other tv packages once contract is up for renewal. I think sky has poor customer service service

I always wonder why people want emails when channels close. Channels come and go on an almost weekly basis. Yesterday a minor religious channel that probably about 10 people watch closed down, would that require an email too? Sky have never sent emails about channel closures (or letters in the days before email) so why start now?

As for the worst customer service Sky constantly tops Ofcom's quarterly figures for the provider with the fewest complaints, so if Sky are bad the others must be utterly terrible.

Indeed it is arguable...  Personally, I never watch the channel but if I did then I would argue the service has reasonably reduced to trigger such a clause.

Re: Loss of Eurosport

Eurosport 1 and 2 were two of the biggest 'free' channels offered by Sky and had been available for over 35 years so to compare them to a religious channel is a little bit stupid I think.

Re: Loss of Eurosport

I agree that the price increase is not justified in the poor level of service. I tried to get my monthly bill reduced because they have stopped supplying Eurosport and therefore broken my 2 year contract but customer service phone operator who was very difficult to understand, at first tried to get me an upgrade which I explained I was not interested in, then told meI could'nt leave sky as I would be breaking my contract and if I changed my package I would have to begin a new 2 year contract.

Obviously I want to leave sky as soon as possible not prolong the agony, so my best option is to carry on with this contract pay the price increase for a worst service that I had before.

I tried to email sky with my complaint but surprise, surprise their email for this is broken and under maintenance and they cannot be contacted this way🤨🤨🤨

Re: Loss of Eurosport

minor religious channel was that, how long had it been available? Eurosport  had been on the Sky platform for over 35 years and was watched by a whole lot more than 10 people. When channels like this are taken down, an email letting people know would be "good" customer service. It might have even generated more income attracting subscribers to TNT, instead,  it has  annoyed people and will no doubt cause many to cancel. These two channels were my most watched channels, when my contract is up I will be cancelling  some of my packages, movies and kids can go for a start. Expecting  people to pay more money for less quality is a fools game that I won't be playin.
