Just had a call from 08** 761 3372 saying they were from Sky.
I was suspicious that the number had been spoofed because of a couple of reasons.
He was very aggressive and kept stating he "had all my details in front of him" but could I confirm them
He wanted to know if I was satisfied with my Sky package and was sure he could do better - again if I could confirm some details.
The thing is we only recontracted with Sky before Christmas at a rate I was happy with (cheaper than previous package)
So why would Sky want to give money away to a recent recontract?
I asked him to email me the best price for my current package... Waits with baited breath.
If the call was genuine, can I suggest if anyone from Sky reads this that they;
Send their customer service staff on a course
Perhaps email saying they can offer a better rate etc. (or just lower our prices...)

See this link as per Skys own website
https://www.sky.com/help/articles/received-call-from-08007613372
that's not to say the number can't be spoofed so if you're unsure you were correct in being suspicious but as the link suggests - call Sky back.

Thanks @Daniel0210 I found that before posting. If it was legitimate, what annoys me/makes me suspicious is their insistence that I confirm who I am - they called me not the other way round.

Re: Legitimate call or scam?
They need to be able to confirm they are talking to the account holder. With any unexpected calls from Sky if the caller asks for your telephone password to confirm you're the account holder (which a genuine Sky agent should) initially give an INCORRECT one on purpose. If the caller doesn't challenge it then you know it'll be a scam call.

I like that idea 👍👍 it's sneaky..👍
It would also be good if they asked for, say the third and last letter/number etc. of the password

Re: Legitimate call or scam?
The same thing happened to me today, before I read this. They asked for my password & Mother's maiden name but wouldn't confirm my sky account number. I thought it was a scam. Sky you need to find a way of making these calls without alarming your customers.

It was.

It wasn't Sky.
They asked for my password & Mother's maiden name but wouldn't confirm my sky account number.
Did you give them these details?

Spoofing caller ID is a trivial software task and routinely carried out by scammers.

Re: Legitimate call or scam?
I keep getting calls from them too. They only asked for my name and kept telling me they could see all my details but could not tell me what phone I currently have on contract with them. They are very suspicious.

Re: Legitimate call or scam?
Can sky sort themselves out please. First of all could you email your customers to say that in the next few days someone will be contacting you about your account. Then customers would be prepared. I personally, possibly like many others am wary of answering unexpected calls from 0800 numbers. I the email you could also tell us what number will be calling us. I had a call this morning. When the person spoke I was immediately suspicious and disconnected.

Exactly this ^^^
I had another one a couple of weeks ago and he was incredibly rude when I told him I didn't believe he was legitimate.
If Sky do want to reduce my bill, then email me the details and if it's a good offer, I'll sign up for another two years.
If these callers are legitimate, I suggest either @Paul+F+R idea or at the very least Sky need to send the call centre staff on a training course

Re: Legitimate call or scam?
Tbh Sky couldn't warn its customers if the call offering a discount isn't from them. Chances are it was a scam call. These are currently doing the rounds & usually offer a 40% discount plus a 'free gift'. They then require your account details to process the discount but in reality they're ordering expensive devices.
I don’t work for Sky.

During the last call I had (with the extremely rude guy) I offered to confirm two of the letters from my password and purposely gave one wrong - which he knew was wrong.
So, either Sky are offering to reduce bills and their staff are unprofessional or Sky have had a data breach and customer information has been hacked and they're keeping it quiet...

Re: Legitimate call or scam?
Yeah that is strange. Did they make any offers similar to what I mentioned?
I know Sky do email with offers when the subscription is about to expire & they do call should a customer cancel.
