Re: Legitimate call or scam?

I still have my suspicions that EITHER Sky have been hacked and sufficient information has been leaked for these "agents" to seem plausible

OR

Sky's customer service training is very poor that they permit such rude individuals on the phone.

As I've previously said if Sky want to prove that they have offers etc email me on my Sky email address, then I'll call them. Simple.

If they are offering upgrades, alternative services etc. then they should go through with it and then email the account holder for confirmation.

Hi @Roger+Red   That would be fine for single person households. Obviously many families share the same home phone number and an email address. How would Sky know that an account holder agreed to the change? Easy to agree and then delete an email before the rest of the family see it.

Given the scale of penalties which the ICO can levy for not revealing such a thing, I'd suggest it's extremely unlikely.

Failing to notify the ICO of a breach when required to do so can result in a heavy fine of up to £8.7 million or 2 per cent of your global turnover. The fine can be combined with the ICO’s other corrective powers under Article 58. It is important to make sure you have a robust breach-reporting process in place to ensure you detect, and notify breaches, on time and to provide the necessary details, unless the personal data breach is unlikely to result in a risk to the rights and freedoms of data subjects.

Unless they don't know....😜

In all seriousness, if Sky really want to take ownership of the situation, it's simple - email the customer of the deals available and teach their advisors some manners.

Re: Legitimate call or scam?

Hi, Mighty Quinn,

That scenerio is highly unlikely to happen. But even if it did, it could easily be rectified should an acount holder query a transaction. Scams are far more common, therefore companies need to use procedures that do not require personal information to given to a cold caller.

To emphasise. I am refering to cold calls not calls instigated by the customer.

I had a call from this number today and when I explained I do not give any identifying information during a cold call, his reply was, "I told you I'm from Sky and we've been talking for eight minutes." 🤔

Sounds genuine to me.  😂

I am just another Sky customer and my views are my own even if you don't like the answers
