Is Sky selling my information?

Without Prejudice

Hello

This is not an accusation it just seems very coincendtial.

My question is:

Sky claims to look after your data but from what I have seen and listened to the only way these "scammers" can get that information is from Sky.

Could there be a leak somewhere?

Some sort of response would be great.

Thanks for letting me rant.

Scammers get information when people respond to fake emails or calls purporting to be from Sky as this then gets them access to the Sky account especially if they are given the account details including the username and password.

Hello caesarome

Thanks for your response. I never respond to spam emails and the only infomation they get from me on a phone call is "hello"

Mt question is: where did they get the information from to contact me?

@GezB25 the only organisation Sky pass your details on to is Sky Protect, administered by Domestic and General.

@GezB25

Email lists circulate globally: these may be from legitimate services where the customer has given permission, or assets purchased in bankruptcies, or leaks, or 'hacks'. UK companies tend to be fairly careful about consent issues, but laws vary elsewhere.

Scam phonecalls are typically from automated dialling which hits every number in a particular range.

One route used was weak/reused passwords.  If the scammers tried known passwords on sky accounts they sometimes work.  This gives them a lot of information to scam people with...

Two-factor was recently enforced whch should drastically reduce such inflitration.
