@Edwrad

They gave me this ID when I phoned them on a genuine customer services number.

Re: I received a call from sky

I got a call today from +44 7451 28211X about helping lowering my bills. Wondering if they're genuinely from sky? but the quote they told me was outrageous. 500 megaBYTES + tv for 58 gbp... I'm currently only paying 15.50 for 1 gig with virgin. I told them there was no way one can get 500 megabytes in scotland and told him 1 byte = 8 bits, don't think he got me.

He kept iterating it's full fibre I said I understand but 500 MB/s = roughly 4 gigabits, which most ISPs top out at 1-1.5 gbps. I said impossible which he then hung up on me.

@Dandelion6663

Sky Broadband offers 2.5Gbps and 5Gbps speed bands, but only over CityFibre infrastructure.

https://www.skygroup.sky/article/sky-becomes-uk-s-fastest-major-broadband-provider-with-launch-of-ne...

The offering on Openreach tops out at 1 Gbps even though EE has pushed theirs to 1.6Gbps.

Re: I received a call from sky

Just had a call from this number aswell.  Asked me to confirm my name so i said "you called me so you tell me" then hung up. Googled as a legitimate sky number but didnt seem very legitimate to me.

@Tails1 some auto diallers (probably what Sky are using) wait for you to speak first before passing the call to an adviser.

Hi @Tails1   It is a scam, the clue is no one ever speaks. They are using an autodialer spoofing Sky's number.

Re: I received a call from sky

I received a call from the same number, I eventually had to hang up as it didn't come off as Sky or professional, and search the number which led me here.

No one said anything when I answered, after both repeating hello back and fourth it sounded like he was outside or breathing very heavily down the phone, asked me for details, got to the bank number and I hung up.

Glad to see it wasn't a scam but a very odd call and experience, my faith in their customer service is small at best as I've raised a complaint, and that call has baffled me more.

Hi, if they were asking for your bank details then it Was a scam well done for hanging up

Re: I received a call from sky

That's the weird part, same number and got a email from the after from the official email address.

I'm narrowing it down to a very unprofessional employee.

@XV84

Sky shouldn't need your bank details to verify you are the account holder.

Scammers try to obtain sufficient information to be able to order expensive mobile devices under your name which Sky innocently deliver to you. Hopefully you hung up before divulging anything.

The scammers would then recontact you (again claiming to be Sky) saying they have made a mistake and for you to send it to a (non Sky) address. If you did that they then have the device and you have the bill.

They are very cunning. They may send packaging to post the item (to them) or might even send a 'courier' to collect it.

See this link

https://www.sky.com/help/articles/account-takeover

With any calls from 'Sky' (especially unexpected calls) if the caller asks for your previously agreed telephone password to confirm you're the account holder (which I would expect a genuine Sky agent to do) initially give an INCORRECT one on purpose. If the caller doesn't challenge it then you know it will be a scam call.

Re: I received a call from sky

Had a couple of calls from this number this week, same number has called so I answered and he first said "am I talking to xxx" so I responded with "who are you calling from" he says Sky so I responded with " what's your name" then he hung up, I don't like talking to random without knowing who they are ringing from and who they are. Other calls I answer they always says who they are and who they calling from.
