the same 0800 number mentioned here keeps calling me (I have cancelled everything with sky).
each time the caller doesn't sound particularly professional and hangs up after 43 seconds. just seems a bit dodgy.

Just had the identical call from Sky. They say they rang to try and reduce my bill. I asked the question " How do I know you're from Sky"
Call was cut off

Just had a really similar experience.
middle of making dinner then the next minute I'm getting called cheap for not taking out a deal on an IPad that I didn't want or need. 😂
Sky really are going downhill massively at the moment.

0800 761 **** do not give this number any details. When I refused to give my password or mothers maiden name he suggested we play a game where I give him the right one and 2 wrong ones and then he will know which is true. I said he was being silly. I asked him how many boxes I had and he got that wrong. He then said I had cancelled a contract for Sky Broadband. This was also not true so I knew immediately that he was lying. I challenged him and he told me he would lose his job if I didnt give him the verification details - what kind of person thinks Sky would do this ! After a few more times of begging me, he put the phone down. This is NOT SKY !!

I received the same phone number calling me from Sky asking me if I want Netflix for £15.24 a month. I said no, they said ok bye

Did that number end with 3372 because if so it was from the Sky sales and service team as you can see under "Check if it was from us" here:

Well theoretically it's also possible the number was spoofed and a scam.
Even if Sky phone you they should still be using the telephone password to confirm they are speaking to the account holder. If you know the telephone password you could always tell them one you know is incorrect first and see what they say, if they "accept" it you know they are more than likely to be scammers.

I have just had the same experience. Answered the call, he said it was to help reduce bill. I said ok and it then cut off. Slightly confused.

While we can't say for sure the chances are this was a scam call so should you receive anymoe don't give out any personal details.

I received a call from this number offering to reduce my bill. Despite still being in contract well into next year they trying to say I would be saving money. They were trying to sell me additional packages at a reduced price but would have increased my month cost and put me on a new 24 month contract. While a legitimate sky number I feel this is upselling, misleading and poor practice.

SCAM
I received a call from Sky, 0800 761 3372, saying that they wanted to provide assistance regarding lowering monthly bills.
It wasn't an English speaker and they mentioned over 3 times "this isn't a scam call". They told me to Google the number to see if it was legit, which I did an although it matched the number I was being called from I was still supicious. The operator asked me to verify myself and then he would verify himself. He then said I didn't have verification set up on the account and so the next security step would be to provide the card details I pay with so they can check they account.

That's the thing - it wasn't from Sky... They spoof the number...

I'm going to echo the above, I just received a call from freephone 761 3372 and while I know this to be a legitimate number the way the gentleman spoke just didn't feel right.
He knew my first name and my VIP level so it could be legit (or a sign of a leak) though, if this is the case Sky probably need to have a word with their overseas call centre teams as it just made me feel generally uneasy.
I ended the call on the basis I was too busy and would call back to discuss the deals he was planning to run through with me, I'd rather be the one calling that the one being called and having to provide any kind of security information to someone I don't trust.

One thing that has been mentioned (and I'm not sure if it's in this thread), is when asked for your telephone password give an incorrect one on purpose. If it's Sky they'll know it's incorrect and tell you, if it's scammers they'll carry on scamming.
