Contract Broken ?

I signed up with Sky in November (Broadband and TV) 18 month contract.  Although I pay £** each month for some reason my bills are shown as £a for broadband and £b for TV.  After just 4 months I have recevied a letter saying that the broadband price is going up.  Am I correct in presuming that:

1.   That increase by them breaks the contract and I can leave without penalty?

2.  That increase by them breaks the contract for both BB and TV and I can leave both without penalty?

You'll be able to leave your broadband contract within 30 days of receiving formal notification of the price increase. The increase in your TV subscription is within the terms of the contract you signed, so you won't be able to cancel it.

@FortyTwo2  You can cancel broadband within 30 days of receiving notification

sky tv contracts explicitly state you can't cancel during the minimum term unless Sky agrees you can

Re: Contract Broken ?

Thanks for the replies . . . ..

As the TV is totally tied into the Broadband how can it be fair that they can increase the BB and I can't leave both?  That is 'sharp practice'!  I signed up for a package - I do not expect there to be some 'small print' in there desgined to deceive me into what I signing up to.  If what is said above it correct they can double/triple the price of BB and I can't do anything about it as I have their TV !!

How do I complain - who do I complain to?

@FortyTwo2 They're separate contracts. It's perfectly feasible to use Sky Glass/Puck with a non-Sky broadband provider. I do so myself.

The increase email should identify your options.

as noted there are two separate contracts you agreed and each has its own terms.

But at the very least you should be able to leave the broadband without penalty.  Have a re-read of the terms you agreed about increases and your options to cancel.

Do you mean can Sky know who you are with? If so then yes they can, and that's fine, Sky Stream can work on any sufficiently good broadband. I'm with EE for example.

Re: Contract Broken ?

Thanks for that  . . . . right now I am feeling lke I have been 'conned,'  it seems to me that signing me up to BB and TV as separate entities was done to make my 'switching' life more difficult when they increase prices and that makes me angry enough to get out (hopefully not from the frying pan to the fire).  Prior to November I has been with Virgin for 10+ years and they increased prices but not less than 4 months after I joined!

Same as Virgin - increases happen every April.  Both my Sky and VM contracts are increasing.

Re: Contract Broken ?

Well as mentioned Sky raise prices once a year in April, so if you do decide to stay then know that that happens like clockwork.

I'm not sure that I understand how them selling you broadband and TV is a con in any way, to be honest. You can exit your broadband contract and move elsewhere for broadband but stay with them for TV as you're contracted for.

@FortyTwo2

New customers normally have a 60 day pause before increases are applied.

From the email…
If you recently joined Sky TV or signed up to a new minimum term, the price change won’t apply to those services for the first 60 days.

Re: Contract Broken ?

It is said above that price rises come in April  . . ..   does that mean I can expect another letter in the post with price rise for the TV?  (In which case I can exit both)

Yes but you may not be able to exit TV

Re: Contract Broken ?

You can't exit the TV contract unless they break the contract. The rules for TV and broadband are different. If you haven't already received a TV increase then you should do yes.
