And forcing customers to lose a major part of the functionality is going to cause Sky problems .... would you accept a loss of recording ability and still pay the same ?
It's not a loss of recording ability for me. I've got access to iplayer, itx x, c4 app, disney+, netflix, hbo max and prime video so the majority of content i want to watch is typically available on demand, whether its from a third party app or from sky's on-demand catalog. Typically the only content i need to cloud record is live sporting events, and in over 90% of the cases i've never had an issue accessing or watching that recording.
Fundamentally users who want to record content and keep it forever will have to get used to the fact that the writing has been on the wall for that for several years now, as the streaming boom happen and all the rights holders figured they can essentially grab their own intellectual property back. Really if you want to keep recordings for a long time, its time to go back to buying physical media like DVDs/Blurays,
I switched over to the streaming platform from Sky +HD 4 years ago now ( and at that time the deal i was offered was cheaper by making the switch to the new platform) likely because Sky were trying to actively encourage customers to switch over at that time.

Sky Stream Package
- Sky Ultimate TV (Sky Entertainment with Netflix – with ads) - £35.00
- Sky Sports Complete, including Sky Sports+ £33.00
- HBO Max (with ads) and Disney+ (with ads) Free
- Whole Home (additional room) £15.00
- Monthly cost: £83.00
Contract length: 24 monthsI was wondering how much I should offer - and came up with the figure of £65
What would YOU pay ?
I am being taken to the cleaners over Q - £87.50 (Signature, Sport, HD and Multiscreen)
If you think about it, what would be the incentive for Sky to want to offer cheap deals for existing customers to switch from satelliete, particularly with that broadcasting platform approaching end of life, as that in itself will force customers to either drop Sky or move to the streaming platform.
They should be incentive for Sky to want to keep there exsisting customer base when the satellite platform is ending as with streaming there is more competition than they had on satellite. If what I am offered to change to stream from my present Sky Q. In fact I am offered either for glass or stream it every thing at full price and I would lose all my discounts that I have on Sky Q. This being the case when my present Sky minimum term end I 2028 I will definitely not be switching to sky steam as I can get most of what my wife and I watch on Sky by getting a cheap firestick and subscribing to the now tv app. Yes that is technically still a Sky company but there subscription are a lot cheaper than having Sky stream with no no discount even Sky sports is cheaper on there than what you pay full price on Sky. For movies there plenty of competition to Sky movies in fact I watch more of Netflix and prime video than I find to watch on Sky movies anyway. No when satellite finishes Sky will have to do something to keep there customers or like you say they will walk . And what I have seen the Sky steam system is not a scratch on the satellite service as ther are many compliant, even now I read of many instances that customers that have tried Sky steam have not liked the service and wanted to return to Sky Q, a option that will not abavailble onece the. Satellite service finishes. If sky steam gets such a bad name Sky might end up with a very small customer base and even offering price losing discounts might not get them customers if there service is such rubilsh they will go to the competition and may end up like ITV digital did going out of business.
@DaveDrizen you have essentially provided the argument as to why Sky might act this way. Yes customers will either switch to streaming or leave, and i'd suggest a number of customers who leave would still consume Sky's services via NOW TV, so still generating revenue and profit for them.
You also mention the other streaming services acting as competition, well don't forget Sky's streaming platform was always marketed as being a "content aggregator", and certainly with the additional bundling of HBO Max and Disney, in with the various offers for Netflix and Paramount +, the Sky proposition does start to offer good value for money for those who would individually subscribe to those platforms anyway.

Most of the stuff you have quoted above is available without a Sky subscription, why go to the expence of sky subscription if you just want sport it would be cheaper to just have a cheap firestick and a Now tv app Sky sports membership and may HBO max TNT sport subscription if want you want as well. I not sure about Sky sports membership on now but with TNT sports content on the HBO max app you can save a sport event in " My stuff" and will stay there for even months later as I have done.

Re: 24 years VIP counts for nothing !!
I am considering upgrading my Sky account to include Fibre (at the moment I am with Talktalk)
A new customer can get Ultimate + 900Mb fibre for £41 - that would be a good deal - but how much will I (customer for 23 years) be expected to pay by PRIORITY CUSTOMERS ? - I have emailed them, if they deem me worth even responding to !
Lets have a guess shall we ?
I am guessing over £100 !

@Wibbly-Woo you certainly won't get preferential prices solely because of being a Priority customer.

@Mark39 I don't want to be a priority customer - but they won't release me or tell me how or why I got captured by them in the first place !
Priority customers are like a virus that you REALLY don't want to catch and once you have been infected - you are stuck with them for life !

@Wibbly-Woo If you are currently with talktalk for broadband then you should certainly be entitled to new customer rates for sky broadband as you would be a new customer to that particular service regardless of customer status

@Wibbly-Woo They have told you why your account is with them and why it's been ringfenced(you posted correspondence on another forum stating so), it's east to see from your posts here and elsewhere the reason why it's with the priority team.
Given some posts are over 2 years old and it's clear you where unhappy then I can't understand why you haven't simply cancelled and moved provider, and please don't say they won't let you as that wouldn't be the case.

Given you're only half through a 2 year contract for Q (that you agreed to) I highly doubt the TV package will come into the equation. Sky don't usually package TV & BB together (even if advertised and sold together) but you will be eligible for a new Sky broadband deal at least. I presume you are out of minimum term with Talktalk? Maybe Sky will discuss a new 24 month deal for the TV as well, but don't expect miracles.

Technically they co-sell two different products: the contracts and T&C's remain distinct.
