sky adverts with current news/sports presenters

hi, I am enquiering ifit is legal for current sky news / sky sports presenters to try to gamble (postcode lottry) everytime I switch to a sky channel, this is not only annoying but is FORCED intimidation . with some people this could imprint it into the heads that they have to gamble .

I'm not sure which adverts you're referring to. However, organisations the size of Sky have internal legal and compliance departments to make sure that they comply with regulatory requirements. If you believe they're breaching the advertising regulations, report it to the ASA.

@jacky+57

The restriction on use of 'celebrities' is actually quite limited, as it only specifically rules out those with a 'strong appeal to under-18s'

For example, ads will not be able to use:

Topflight footballers and footballers with a considerable following among under-18 on social media.

All sportspeople well-known to under-18s, including sportspeople with a considerable volume of under-18 followers on social media.

References to video game content and gameplay popular with under-18s.

Stars from reality shows popular with under-18s, such as Love Island.

Asa has this on use of celebrities

https://www.asa.org.uk/advice-online/celebrities.html

There use to be some restrictions in uk on advertising with a celebrity during the ad break of a programme they are on, but this has restriction has  been removed for a good number of years.

Tv producers should also have their own legal standards for which their on air personalities should comply with

Who is the sky presenter on the ad?

And as I noted above, the key point with regard to gambling/lottery advertising is whether they can be said to have 'a strong appeal to under-18s', which I suspect wouldn't be the case here.   Just being a 'celebrity' is not a disqualification: this isn't about reducing gambling per se (which no government has ever been serious about, perhaps not entirely unrelated to substantial tax revenue and associated industry lobbying ; )

I've not seen the ads but how is it forced intimidation? Are they making threats against people who don't gamble?

Personally i wouldn't term either of those 2 as "celebrities" anyway 😁

Re: sky adverts with current news/sports presenters

@jacky+57 in short, yes it's legal. I understand gambling is sensitive topic but I don't think The Poscode Lottery ads could in anyway be accurately described as forced intimidation... although I'd really rather they didn't come knocking on my door with their giant red blimp.
