See earlier in the thread for some suggestions to alleviate it a bit but basically it's a characteristic of that TV with very dark scenes so no permanent solution coming.

Re: House Of The Dragons UHD

Are you still working on a solution?

It's software problem or hardware flaw of Sky Q?

I did not detect the same issue using Amazon or Paramout + app in Samsung TV.

And not even using the Samsung Media Player.

Thanks

Re: House Of The Dragons UHD

I don't think there is a solution.
I like you access Amazon Netflix Disney via the tv apps rather that the apps via sky q.  It's the same with iplayer which has much better 4k than sky.

The fix is an implementation by Samsung not ourselves - via an over-the-air update to people's TV's.

Re: House Of The Dragons UHD

Are you saying that the fix has been established and deployed to user devices?

Or that that is what will happen once a fix is established?

I had to turn UHD off, so would be nice to have it back if it's been deployed

Re: House Of The Dragons UHD

It is a flaw with Sky Q. It's 4k is not up to standard. Nothing I can do.

It' a SKY Q problem but the Fix is by Samsung.

Ok.

The fix has already been done or they are still working on it?

Timing?

Thanks

Perhaps worth noting that HBO acknowledged the contribution that certain 'creative choices' made to similar issues in GoT by 'fixing' some of them in their UHD Blu-ray release, but it's still challenging for anything other than a studio-grade monitor.

@MassimoM. It doesn't happen on my TV so it's not a simple "Sky Q problem"

it's imho a combination of;

ludicrously dark scenes

HLG

Sky's compression

Samsung's handling of the above 3

Re: House Of The Dragons UHD

I don't have a Samsung. I can tell you that 4K on Sky Q is inferior to every other platform that I access from the tv apps rather than Sky Q apps.

I wouldn't argue with that (better compression and HDR10 / DV being big factors in that)

it's better than anything else broadcast in the UK at the moment though.

edit: I take that back just because I haven't seen it but I hear BT Sport football is very good.

@Chodley

I watched a bit of the Rugby Union in 4K HDR on BT Sport via my Apple TV last year before football resumed and I can fully concur it is up to a very good standard and a pleasure to watch.

I do intend to buy a Dolby Vision 4K Bluray player to watch Game of Thrones and House of Dragon though on my OLED just plain HDR via my PS5 is very watchable on Game of Thrones.

Is the PS5 like the xbox one then, no DV from discs? Very annoying.
