When did she get her current Sky box?

More or less than 10 years ago?

Almost certainly an issue with the dish or cabling. If it is Sky+HD she will have to employ a local TV/Satellite repair person to investigate and fix as Sky no longer service Sky+HD setups.

Re: Bad weather knocks sky of

I used to have the same problem when I had Sky+ back in the day. I just assumed it was the heavy cloud coverage & bad weather interfering with the broadcast signal being transmitted between the satellite up in orbit & my dish outside on the wall.

I personally would just change to a Sky puck for your mum. I've had no issue in bad weather since I made the switch as the broadcast signal is transmitted to the puck via the internet with no dish outside involved to create any problems in bad weather.
