Re: lost old landline number without my knowledge

I had the same problem last month and have lost the phone number Ive had for over 20 years. When I called to find out what happened all I got was basically an "oops that didnt happen......oh well......". GREAT WORK SKY!!! On a positive note I got the chance to teach the customer service guy that you can keep you phone number when moving house. He was adamant that phone numbers where locked to the line.

Re: lost old landline number without my knowledge

I actually found support on the app utterly dire!  I waited about two days for a response and then it simply confirmed the broadband deal I was on!!!!  That said, if I am honest, by losing the old number, which barely anyone phoned anymore, it has actually been a bit of a 'win'.  I have lost all the old spam calls, and the new number is actually very memorable 🙂

Re: lost old landline number without my knowledge

The same thing has just happen to me. It's so annoying, I've had the same number for years. Doctors, hospitals, work, friends and family have all been using the same number for years.

I don't really seem to care. I've been with Sky for less than 24 hours and I'm ready so annoyed with them.

Re: lost old landline number without my knowledge

I'm sorry to hear that, especially where your landline is clearly still well-utilised.

I am relatively happy overall with my new package.  I have absolutely zero confidence, however, that if anything goes wrong during my contract customer services will be of much use given my experience thus far.

That said, this community has been a big help in sorting out initial queries via resources.

I think the experience of the 'hassle-free' switchover from Virgin was far from that promised, but again, I'm not sure I've ever had a hassle-free switchover from any major supplier, other than perhaps energy suppliers which always seems to just happen behind the scenes.

I hope you get some support from Sky Noseph in terms of chasing up your old number.

Re: lost old landline number without my knowledge

Same thing happened to me. Switched from Vodafone FTTP to Sky due to increasing prices for loyal customers (cheap deals for new Vodafone customers only!). Asked to retain the landline number I've had for 30+ years during switching application (& noticed an odd notice warning I may not retain number once I had accepted Sky deal) but when activated on 7th May found I had  a new landline number!!

BIG headache for me as my old landline number is embedded in LOTS of important services (Gov, Health, Pension, Insurance etc.) plus elderly relatives & contacts who don't know how to reprogram their phones.

Surely a switch between FTTP providers - both on Openreach - should retain the same virtual landline number!!!

Re: lost old landline number without my knowledge

Made a complaint (using link in post #2) & received reply asking me to phone Sky Customer Services to sort out return of my old landline number. When I called the agent advised the only way to return my old landline number was to have the Cancellations team cancel my new Sky contract, & create a new contract which would use my old landline number within 10-14 days. HOWEVER this process would also stop my broadband service for same period!! Didn't accept this daft fix & asked for my complaint to be escalated.
