Want to keep my old landline number

I WAS with Sky but changed to BT Essentials. BT gave me a new landline number. BT say I have to contact Sky to get them to release my old number so they can grab it for me.

How can I get Sky to release my old number? I can't find a way to ask Sky to do this?

Thanks

@Russ444  When do you move to BT as the port should of happened at the time you transferred to them

Re: Want to keep my old landline number

I moved to BT today - but BT gave me a new number.

BT say they cannot give me my 30 year old number until Sky release it from their system.

I'm panicking a bit!

@Russ444  When you placed the order for broadband there should have been given the option to keep your number, unsure why BT have set up a new number in that case.  Seems like the issue is woith BT not requestuing your line properly.  Unless other SU's on the forum know different.

I agree with @GD1 . Numbers are ported during an active line takeover by the provider you're switching to. My understanding is that if the number wasn't ported by the requestor, it will have been released to the pool of unused numbers following the successful switch to BT. Sky have no way of retrieving the number from the pool, to my knowledge.
