Sky telephone service

Hi,

I now have Sky full fibre with my house phone connected to the router telephone socket. It all works fine.

I would like to remove the old BT cabling back to where the overhead line enters the house (a small 2-wire junction box). This is prior to the master socket which I would also like to remove the connective wiring. Can I simply cut the 2 wires at the junction box and remove all internal house cabling myself or do I have to get BT/Open reach/Sky engineer to do it?

Thanks.

Those companies aren't doing in-premises cable removal: eventually Openreach will recover street cabling for scrap but individual household pairs just don't have the weight in copper to make this viable (and they absolutely don't want the hassle of making-good paint, plaster and woodwork)

Although in theory the metallic circuit up to the master socket is Openreach property, in practice it's entirely redundant once there's FTTP at the address and you can remove it as you see fit.

If you do choose to remove them, try not to short the wires (even though they should now be unpowered and defunct).  I once had a very embarrassing encounter with a police officer after inadvertently generating a silent 999 call while moving live phone cable.

Sky Glass 55" (on ethernet) & two Stream Pucks (one ethernet / one WiFi)
BT Halo 3+ Ultrafast FTTP (500Mbs), BT Smart Hub 2

Re: Sky telephone service

Thanks for your answer. It's what I suspected but didn't know if anyone had any issues removing the cabling. I am an electrical engineer so would insulate the wire ends but as I'm decorating our hallway, it will be nice to get rid of this archaic wiring (was never installed with much thought for appearance!). If any Sky employee knows differently, I'll go with your "advice" (no comeback on you!)

Cheers.
