@8kittens under what circumstances? Do you mean switching to Sky? When you place the order, tick the box asking if you want to keep it. Note it's not always possible to keep your number, even if you ask for it to be kept.

Copper landlines are destined for extinction.

At present, anyone switching ISP in an area where Openreach FTTP has been deployed will be moved to that technology, and voice calls subsequently run over broadband with the metallic circuit becoming redundant.

Even where FTTP isn't available, any change of ISP will move voice to  FTTC broadband in anticipation of the end of PSTN in January 2027
