Sky scare tactics?

I'm switching from Sky to another provider for my superfast fibre connection. I had the Talk package with Sky, but as I dont use my landline phone and as phonecalls were an optional extra with my new provider I decided not to have it. Sky have sent a 'Sorry to see you Go" letter in which they say this -

"If you have not arranged to transfer your Talk to another provider, your Sky Talk will be cancelled 30 days after your Broadband is transferred. If your Talk does not transfer to another provider before this date your line will be cancelled, your phone number will become inactive and your Broadband service with your new provider will also cease ."

My new provider says this is not true, that I wont lose my broadband if I dont have any kind of talk package, but I just wanted to raise it and check with you guys.

Thankyou

It sounds to me that your broadband is being transfererred but not your Talk service, normally both are transferred.

Who is the new provider, have they requested a your number to be transferred?

The bit in bold is correct especially if your number/landline has not bee requested by the new provider.

Your other thread asking the same question in the broadband forum has been removed as creating duplicate threads isn't needed or helpful and prevents duplicate responses.

I doubt Sky would have put this in a letter if it wasn't a possibility. I don't think it has anything to with not having a Talk package. More likely the situation could arise if your new provider takes over only your broadband service and doesn't transfer your phone line too, whether or not you take up a call package with them.

Sky don't provide a landline service only, so I think they're saying that if they're left with your landline (because your new provider has only taken over broadband service) they'll cancel the line with Openreach.

Re: Sky scare tactics?

It means for the new ofcom number porting guidelines. Previously if a service is turned off without transferring to another provider the old telephone number would go into quarantine and be lost. The new guidelines ,since last year, state that if this happens a new provider can request the number back as long as the request to turn in the line and recover the number is done within 30 days of the switch off

if you are switching provider they can either do this with or without porting the number depending on what you ordered. If they have not requested a number port and you want to keep your number then you would need to cancel the order with the new company and get it replaced
