Sky Talk Shield not as expected

My elderly Dad has activated Talk Shield after numerous scam callers.

We have added some "Starred" numbers online and these work.

The instructions say that when someone else calls he has the option to hear their name and accept or block the call. However, when someone calls the phone doesn't even ring. The caller hears a message saying Call rejected please hang up. This is no use if he can only receive starred callers.

We have also been unable to add international numbers to the star list for family who live in Australia. No matter what format we try it says number format not valid.

@Mark39

We think there was a delay with full activation at the "Sky side". Initial calls did not work as stated but they do now. We have contacted Sky to find out why international numbers are marked invalid.

Thanks for trying to help.

Does he have call screening turned on?

Re: Sky Talk Shield not as expected

@Mark39 I'm not sure but I'll message him and see if he can check, he's a couple of miles away from me 😊

Should it be on or off?

 Thanks

Re: Sky Talk Shield not as expected

@Mark39 Hi

call screening is on, switched on by default

if we switch it off does that mean the star list is ineffective? Or does it mean non starred callers can say who they are and Dad chooses to accept or not?

sorry for all the questions, Sky instructions or not very detailed

@JulieJ11 it should be on by default. That will allow non-starred callers to be intercepted and leave their name so that he can choose whether or not to take the call. Blocked callers and callers that can't or won't leave their name will still be rejected.

Re: Sky Talk Shield not as expected

thank you @Mark39

call screening was switched on, but before I added my number to the star list I couldn't get through, so that's no use

now that I have added my number I can call him no problem but presumably other unknown callers cannot

its still a mystery but I will have to leave it until at least tomorrow before I get over there again, I'm sure I'll be back on here

cheers
