Removing phone extension socket

I have a phone extension socket in one of the bedrooms. I am fairly certain it is only an extension socket, as it has no wires going outside. There is a main socket downstairs marked as 'Mastersocket 5C Openreach' with wires coming in from the outside of the house.

I want to remove this extension phone socket, as I have some new flooring going in, which means I will need new skirting and I'm sure the flooring company will say they won't move cabling and trunking around. In any case, I don't need a phone extension in this bedroom (who does these days?)!

My phone services are with Sky, but I'm not sure whether to contact Sky or BT or whoever else (an electrician?) to arrange to remove this socket, its cabling and casing and to ensure it is removed in such a way as the phone service and wifi are not affected.

Can I get some advice on this?

Welcome to this customer=led Community @DesmondGreen 🙂

The extension box and the cabling to it are yours to maintain - you don't need Sky or Openreach to do the work. Just employ a local eletrician or handyman (or do the work yourself, perhaps). I'd recommend they disconnect the cable to the extension socket at the master socket before cutting the cable.

Re: Removing phone extension socket

I contacted an electrician and he said he wouldn't be confident doing the work, being unsure whether it would affect wifi, phone services or the quality of the phone line. From the master socket, there are wires heading off in a few directions. Two cables coupled together run to the Sky box. Another cable goes under the carpet and then I'm not sure to where.

I tried to contact Sky to request this work, through an online form, but this was immediately set to rejected.

If I did want to have Sky help me, how do I go about this?

I don't think they'll do so: extension sockets are not within their remit.
