Phone Rings But Cannot Speak To Caller.

After changing over to Sky Talk last week, our landline phone number worked okay a few days ago yet yesterday on receiving an incoming call I could not speak with the caller. The same thing happened within the last hour. I have checked through the various assistance methods to no avail.

Can someone give me advice please?

Thanks.

Is your phone setup so the cable is plugged into your broadband router so that you have internet calls ?

@Bobby90

Nothing wrong with a landline as long as you have the right package. Some people rely on landlines for lifelines or live in an area with poor mobile signal.

No, a microfilter isn't needed when your phone is plugged into your Sky Hub.

Re: Phone Rings But Cannot Speak To Caller.

I am having the same issues with my telephone. I believe my broadband package changed within the last week and since then I have been able to receive any calls on my landline. All my router connections are correct. Did you manage to resolve this issue? Or can anyone advise?

Does your Sky Hub have a Voice light which is lit? If so, you have internet calls and your phone needs to be plugged into your Hub. It won't work if it's plugged into the wall socket.

Yes the telephone socket is plugged into my hub and the voice light is green. All connections are where they are supposed to be, however having continued issues. And speaking to someone as sky is a battle

Voice light is illuminated & phone is plugged into Sky Hub.

@PanosT, @Graham2681 , try restarting ypur Hub by switching off at the plug for 30 seconds or so. If the problem persists, it sounds like something that will need to be reported to Sky.

If you wish, we can alert Sky and they may be able to contact you (separately) via the forum's private online messaging service so that you can report it.

Re: Phone Rings But Cannot Speak To Caller.

Many Thanks for assistance. I ended up phoning Sky about lunchtime today. They did tests from their end which showed no faults but thought it better for an Openreach engineer to visit & one is booked to visit tomorrow morning. Then early afternoon the phone rang & my wife was able to speak to a family member as normal.

Not sure now whether to cancel the engineer or keep the booked visit so as to hopefully not have this happen again.

Re: Phone Rings But Cannot Speak To Caller.

My parents have the same issue for last 4 days. They'll phone me and they can hear me but I can't hear htem, it's like their line is muted, but it's not as I chaekced all the handsets and even changed them to test.  Sky engineer came out and said it's a national issue, something to do with hacking??

My parents are in their 80's and to not be able to make emergency calls is terrible, though I understand if it's a national issue we just have to wait.

Re: Phone Rings But Cannot Speak To Caller.

Sky/Openreach engineer arrived today & told me that there had been a problem locally & not just our landline. Only time will tell if it was a problem on their network.
