Crackling on land line

Hi there

My landline is crackling so badly it's hard to hear the conversation. I only keep it to talk to my elderly mum as the sound is better for her than a mobile call. It's been like this for a few weeks. 

Wifi and sky is working fine and have been through all the check steps. I have also just bought a new handset in case this is the issue - it isn't! Unsure what to do next.
