My sky + hd suddenly shows a message the the viewing card needs to be paired. Oddly it's in only one room ( I have multi room). I've had sky for 20 years and this happens occasionally without apparent reason. I find this rather frustrating as the instructions to remedy simply don't work

I tried upgrading to SkyQ but when the engineer arrived he asked "which wall shall I bolt my ladder to?"

I sent him away, no one is drilling my walls. I am 73 and I can cheerfully go up a ladder without bolting it to a wall

@miles6

Failing to tether a ladder to a wall is a very serious breach of Skys very tough H & S rules.

That is a known issue where your multiscreen cards get canceled by Sky, you'll most likely need to give sky a call to see what can be done

Re: pairing a card on SKY +

The point is, sky works and I've been using it for a very long time. Then without reason or warning I am told to pair my viewing card. I want to watch tv, not spend half an hour figuring out how to fix what sky has unfixed

But, because you initiated a switch to Sky Q, your Multiroom card was cancelled as you don't need it for Sky Q. Your only option is to speak to Sky to try and get it re-paired.

All modern viewing devices are 'computers'.

Even a 2015 Sky+ HD box has a CPU,  hard drive, operating system, interactive Graphic User Interface and (optional) network connection.

What's happening to you? This thread is a bit out of date. You can no longer pair a Viewing Card to a new box. It's locked to the box in use at the end of October last year.

And did Sky tell us of this cutoff for pairing cards?  I'd have swapped out my Sky HD box then for a spare I had.  Can I do it now?  Seems not.

@Steve+K1311

This is an old thread. Viewing cards cannot be paired with boxes they weren't paired to at the end of October 2024. There have been multiple posts on here about the non pairing since.

No, you can't do it now.

There was some kind of notification on here back in October 2024 when it happened. But not a global notification to each customer announcing it, why would there need to be? Unless you were really unfortunate and an old Sky+HD started to fail in the week of the new policy starting there wouldn't have been a need to change your box while you still could.

Which is poor by Sky if they didn't warn us and seems they didn't.  They told us that the old SD boxes wouldn't be supported but not the HD ones.

They denied us the option.  And yes I would have changed it there and then had they told us.  Thanks for confirming they did not.

@Steve+K1311

See the post from @oj01 which was posted at the same time as yours. It's always been Sky+ and Sky+HD boxes if memory serves me correctly.
