instructions for upgrading to Q are wrong

I received a letter from Sky dated 6 November suggesting that I should stop using my Sky+ box and upgrade to a Sky Q box.  The letter included a number to call  and told me to ask to "Upgrade to Q".  When I called the number and left that as the reason for my call, I got directed by an automatic voice responder (not a human being) to all sorts of services  --  but nothing related to any upgrade to Sky Q.

What is going on ?  It doesn't sound as though the number provided in the letter is the correct one.  Or is this just a scam to get me to buy other Sky services ?

And, incidentally, when I originally included the actual number in this message (which started with the prefix 0333), I got a message from some unidentified source saying that the number was "not allowed or has been repeated too many times" and had to be removed.  Which I have done.  But makes me wonder how Byzantine is the nature of Sky's communications with customers.

Assuming you have a Sky+HD box, whether or not to upgrade to Sky Q is your choice. While your Sky box won't receive future software updates (it hasn't for more than 12 months already) it won't stop working overnight. The most likely reason for it to stop working is a failure,of the hard disk,.

If you choose to upgrade, call the number offered, but try saying nothing when prompted for,the reason for calling by the call answering bot. You should eventually be put through to an adviser.

Posting phone numbers on the forum is disallowed, hence the automated response you received.

hi @eclivea

As @Mark39  even though the letter you may have recieved may give the impression that you need to upgrade. at the moment there is no real need.

You may, also, wish to read some notes I have made for people considering switching from SKY +/HD to SKY Q

SKY +/HD to SKY Q
