You absolutely CAN stay with Sky+HD

Posted by a Superuser, not a Sky employee. Find out more

Just a post for Sky+HD customers who don't want to switch to Sky Q.

You absolutely can stay with your Sky+HD box and negotiate new contract/discounts.

I've done exactly that today with very little effort. Took about half an hour on Sky Chat.

One thing I would add is that this only applies to current active accounts only and not new or reactivation of old ones

Re: You absolutely CAN stay with Sky+HD

Hi. That's how I feel, but because my Sky+ box when off for a few days it just said box initializing, they have told me they don't repair these anymore as they are obsolete and if it goes down again they won't be able to get in for xmas. I have so many recordings on it that I'm going to lose

@Bsxms Sky never did repair failed Sky+ boxes. A faulty box has always simply been swapped out for a replacement, losing any recordings, of course, in the process.

An 'initialising' error is usually the result of a dish/cabling problem rather than a Sky box issue. However, Sky no longer provide engineer support for such Sky+ faults and you would need to engage your own local satellite installer to take a look.

Most of the time that is an indication that the dish needs re-aligning and does not always mean the box is at fault and needs replacing
