Watching in sd

I am not worried about having the hd package but can I watch the hd channels in sd instead? Not all hd channels have an sd equivalent

If you haven't got the HD package then apart from the free ones from the likes of the BBC, ITV etc all the others will be blocked so you would be unable to view them. You will be able to view the free ones though.

You can watch the free HD channels on an SD TV as the picture get downsampled if a subscription HD channel has no SD version then there is no way to watch it without the HD package

@Saxton

No, because that would require the Sky box to render the video image down from HD to SD resolution, and that's a considerable computing task which its hardware and software was never specified to carry out.
