Unable to get sky on my television

when I switch on sky tv all I'm getting is the main page. I cannot select a programme from the menu and am unable to watch anything

You've posted in the Sky+ forum. When a Sky+ box is switched on it displays the last channel watched not a 'Main Page'.

 

Do you have a Sky+ Box?
