thanks for suggestion, however when we subscribed we had to put an extended pole up at the top of the chimey, which did work. We have considered sky glass but dont want to purchase a new Tv, as i believe this is the only option to receive it

It is, at the moment, I'm afraid. NowTv might be another option.

In case you can't watch recorded programmes,
this MIGHT work:
Turn off your box and wait a few seconds. Press Sky, then press play immediately to bring up the planner. The recordings may now be available, sometimes you can get to them before the box realises it's broken. You may have to repeat this when you finish one programme and want to watch another.
