Sky+ hard drive problem
Hi,
Had a powercut last night from approx 5pm to 11pm, this morning, got an error flag saying problem with hard drive. Tried switching off and on again but no joy. It says if I do a 'big' reset, I'll lose all my recordings.

Re: Sky+ hard drive problem
Try a Planner Rebuild
If that fails then a FSR is your last option, but this does mean you'll eventually need to replace the box as the HDD is on its last legs

Isn't it possible to replace the HDD rather than the box?

Swapping the box is easier for most and cost less than the replacement HDD in most cases

Re: Sky+ hard drive problem
I've just tried the 1st one, but it says it can't rebuild the planner in diskless mode.

That suggests the HDD has either failed or has beenbadly corrupted
A Full System Reset would be your next step but even if that gets the HDD working it'll be a temp fix and all your recordings, settings etc... will be lost

Yes ... it is a good temporary solution until secondhand box's HDD fails😉

Why has this happened, though?

They will fail with a new HDD also so I don't see your point 😞 evrything is temporary as NOTHING lasts forever!!

A harddrive is a complex electronic device and as such will fail sooner or later

Secondhand Sky+ HD boxes and the HDD inside are about 10 or more years old... a new HDD wouldn't be that old😉

Secondandboxes maybe that old in actual years but it is the number of years in service that matters more also it is not only HDDs that fail

A new HDD would have ZERO YEARS in service ... isn't this discussion about HDDs😉
