Sky + and pairing viewing cards
My 88 year old mum has had Sky + for many years. When Sky stopped working she asked Sky if she bought a new (reconditioned) Sky box from a third party whether her viewing card could be matched. She asked this specifically as I had read in this forum that this was no longer possible. She was told that it was definitely possible and she bought a new box for £99. Of course it didn't work and Sky has been less than helpful. She spoke to four so called agents today and all they quoted that Sky does not support Sky +. No responsibility taken for giving her the incorrect information and just kept repeating she could move to Sky Q. Zero empathy. Possibly the worst customer service I have experienced.

Re: Sky + and pairing viewing cards
Sky stopped supporting Sky+ last year, so there is nothing Sky can do
Sky Q, Sky Glass & Sky Stream are the only supported TV services Sky provide, though Satellite TV is on it's last legs so it not a long term solution
You could try getting a copy of the telephone conversation recording (if one exists) to see if Sky are at fault for misleading your mum, you would then have a case for compensation

Re: Sky + and pairing viewing cards
Unfortunately she either misunderstood or was poorly informed.
Sky+, being a legacy package, is no longer supported by Sky.
You can't now pair a viewing card to another Sky+ box that it wasn't paired to at the end of October 2024.
You can still call Sky to discuss your options which will be upgrading to Sky Q or moving to Glass / Steam to continue to view Sky content through a Sky subscription.

Re: Sky + and pairing viewing cards
@Marion-B in what way did your mum's old box stop working? I'm wondering if it might be recoverable.
I also wonder if you might have a case against the seller of the box you purchased, as they would have known it's next to useless when the Viewing Card can't be paired with it;

Re: Sky + and pairing viewing cards
My mother visited a Sky stand in our local shopping centre. The guys couldn't answer her question so they called Sky customer service while my mother spoke to them to ask the question about pairing. There was no misunderstanding on her part and Sky were not interested in checking the call recording today - if that was even possible! She is out of contract shortly so will call time on Sky then.
Thanks for your response.
