Remote not working

I am unable to use my remote. It will not let me turn the channels over, it flicks off the tv guide, will not let me choose a channel. 

I have replaced the batteries and turned it off by the plug

Does the LED light up on the box when you press a remote button?

have you tried cleaning the remote ? especially where the sensor is that transmits the signal. Also it might be worth gently clenaing the buttons as sometimes they can become stuck and covered in dirt. Finally is the LED light comming on at all ? if none of this works then you may need to buy a replacement remote.
