I have a Sky+HD box, and have it for many years. Today for some reason I decided to remove the viewing card. I have no idea why! Anyway I inserted it, and on the subscription channels, message came up on the screen stating:
"There is a problem with your viewing card. Ensure your Sky viewing card is correctly inserted"
It's definitely inserted corectly.
When I go to Services - Settings - Details - Viewing Card Number - it says 'no card'
Would you know why this is, please?
Theviewing card nmber commences with a '5'
Thanks,.

Thank you for your help. Sky sent me a new viewing card, but that didn't work. I rang their call centre and they think there must be a problem with the card reader inside the box. They don't repair Sky+HD boxes any more. They are going to install Sky Q (1TB box) for me for £49. The installation date was initially mid-July, but I went on-line and managed to reschedule it for a couple of weeks earlier.

@Andrew+00 if you wanted you could use a second hand sky+ box and match up your viewing card to that box to save you moving to sky Q

Sky didn't mention that. But I think now is the time for me to move to Sky Q as the new Sky Sports+ begins in August and they will have a lot of Football from the EFL on it which isn't available on Sky+HD boxes.

oh ok fair enough sky wouldnt mention that because they are trying to get everyone on sky Q

I have been thinking of moving to Sky Q ever since the new EFL (English Football League) contract was announced and that most of the matches will be on Sky Sports+ which won't be on Sky+HD. Just got to wait now until it is installed. Thanks.

Sky are currently pushing for everyone to move from Sky+HD boxes to Sky Q by offering free installation. So why they're charging you £49 is a bit cheeky.

I could have got it for free if I subscribed to Netflix, but there isn't anything on there for me, so I had to pay the £49. Got to wait 4 weeks for it to be installed. I was surprised as I thought it would be done inside a week.

An update.
My Sky+HD box is now working again. I 'fixed' it by inserting and taking out the viewing card quickly lots of times over a period of around 30 seconds. Then left it inserted and the subscription channels are now available. Perhaps there was some debris or dust inside the box preventing the chip on the card contacting the card reader. Both my old viewing card and new viewing card work. However I have left the new one in.
I may now cancel Sky Q installation as I have been thinking that over people in the house won't be able to get to grips with it as they are used to Sky+HD. I wonder if I will get the £49 reimbursed?
Oh and while I'm on here, how do I edit posts?

You need to reach level 3 in order to be able to edit your own posts.

Thank you @Daniel0210
That rule is an absolute joke, isn't it?!
If I realise I have made a mistake in a message after I have posted it, I have to post again to rectify it! I assume the people who run the forum don't mind lots of additional messages.

Best check first with Sky that you can continue with Sky+ if you cancel Sky Q.

I have telephoned them and they said that the Sky+HD boxes will stop working this August.
