No signal Sky+

Last night my sky+ box lost signal and I've tried all the usual steps to restore but no luck. Just off phone to customer services and no engineer support now for sky+ so only sky Q upgrade offered. However new viewing card being posted to try that in a few days to see if makes any difference. My card looks quite brown with heat. Anything else I can try?

@Maxxy what are the steps you've taken?

I can't see how a replacement Viewing Card is going to resolve a satellite signal problem. The brown discouloration on your current Card is entirely normal and doesn't affect the box.

Re: No signal Sky+

I have switched boxnoff at wall, unplugged and checked all connections several times. Removed viewing card and wiped it as suggested by agent also.

@Maxxy there's really nothing more you can do practically by way of checks. By all means wait and see if the replacement Card makes any difference. Failing that, the cause is most likely a fault with your dish or cables. You're right, Sky no longer provide engineer support for Sky+ equipment unless you have Sky Protect, but you could pay for a local satellite engineer to take a look.

Alternatively you could do the upgrade to Sky Q. Any dish or cabling issues will be addressed as part of the Sky Q installation at no additional cost to you.

Re: No signal Sky+

I take it that the new Sky Q supply and installation is free?

@Maxxy installation is free. Unlike with Sky+, the Sky Q box is loaned to you and has to be returned when you cancel.

You might find this guide helpful, written by a fellow Superuser @nigea99on the differences between sky Q and Sky+: https://helpforum.sky.com/t5/Sky-Q/Switching-from-SKY-SKY-HD-to-SKY-Q-some-points-to-note/m-p/447009...

Re: No signal Sky+

Got the new viewing card and as expected it has made no difference, still no signal whatsoever.

Question: I'm sure that I am in contract until June. As I no longer have a sky+ HD service that works, and Sky will not send out an engineer to fix the problem, will I be able to cancel my Sky TV without early fees?

@Maxxy

Only Sky can answer that with any certainty. Note that the latest T’s and C’s explicitly state you can’t cancel when still in a minimum term deal unless Sky agree. (If they agree you’ll have to pay the remainder of your discounted term).

See the below link
https://www.sky.com/help/your-account/my-account-and-subscription/cancelling/cancel-my-subscription/...

Select ‘No, I still need help’ at the bottom of the link which will lead to contact methods.
(Make sure the flag in the bottom right corner is the correct one ie; UK or ROI).
UK customer ~ It may include a phone number, an email link and also a Message Us option (which is normally available between 9am and 7.30pm).
ROI customer ~ there’s a text option (Monday-Friday 9am to 4:30pm) otherwise it’s only by calling Sky Ireland or writing in.

If you successfully cancel you should receive an acknowledgment email from Sky.

Remember that billing continues through the notice period after which a credit for any overpayment will show on your bills and should be refunded in about 6 weeks from your last day of connection.

Re: No signal Sky+

Thanks, just trying to weigh up my options.

If I take the free Sky Q installation do I go back to the start of a minimum contract term or does my current contract term just continue until June?
