Help

I have tried to resolve a problem with my sky plus box using the help menu without success and was then asked to pay for technical advise by Ask- Crew who appear to be scammers who will charge £35 after you give them your credit card details after one month. Are they employed by Sky to resolve problems?

Sky+ is no longer supported by Sky.  (Sky Q is the upgrade route)

AskCrew is not an official Sky support route afaik.

I am just another Sky customer and my views are my own even if you don't like the answers

@TommyG5

I've moved your post into the Sky+ board as it's unconnected to Sky Mobile.

As indicated by @PandJ2020 Sky+ is a legacy product that's no longer supported by Sky. Contacting Sky via official methods might bring advice but you won't get an engineer if one's required.

I've never heard of Ask - Crew and they don't represent Sky.

Was that actually a suggestion by a Sky representative, or the result of an internet search?

One of those online tech support outfits which appear in paid-for search results, unfortunately, and using their service once creates an auto-renewing 'membership'

Re: Help

It was a search of Sky Help Pages. I also came across similar companies called Just Answer and Howly.

Re: Help

My box got stuck in standby mode last Friday when I was fast forwarding through a programme that I have taped. I have tried rebooting and updating softwear using You Tube videos without success. On turning on my TV I get a No Signal message, then on pressing the Source button on my TV I can see that the Sky Box on HTML1 is still on stand by even though my Sky Box is showing a green light. Using the Automated Sky Help system just seems to take you to so called expert advisors who I suspect of being scammers, which seems to be confirmed by Google Searches.

@TommyG5  None  of the help pages take you to any external site other then sky.com.

As stated Sky+HD is not supported by Sky, any help files only point you to Sky, if you have googled help and been directed to a 3rd party site that is not Sky's fault.

If you could provide the link to backup your claims about being taken to scammers via ny help link on this site we can raise this to Sky.

Re: Help

Simply type Sky Help into a search engine and several dodgy sites will appear.

That is not Sky's fault, as they have genuine help pages on their own websites,  they cannot be held responsible for scam websites, if you follow them from google that is your doing.

Why did you not simply go to Skys own website?  Sky box stuck on standby - check your cables | Sky Help | Sky.com | Sky Help | Sky.com

@TommyG5 your Sky box isn't stuck in standby if the power LED on the front panel turns to green when you turn the box on.

I'd suggest turning the box and your TV off at the plug, then disconnecting the HDMI cable from both your Sky box and TV. Turn the ends over (or use a replacement cable if you have one) then reconnect it. If your TV has more than 1 HDMI socket, try a different one. Then turn your TV and Sky box back on and see you have a picture.

Re: Help

I did!! I suspect it was because I searched for "Sky+ Box "stuck originally, which I was unaware is no longer supported by Sky

As previously posted, nowhere in Sky's help do they recommend Just Answer and Howly.

Re: Help

@TommyG5  Sky's own help pages still list help guides for Sky+/Sky+HD so I'm not sure why you could not find anything as it is all there still.

You do need to go to the help section on Sky.com and not google.
