Cannot open cover on remote.

Cannot remove cover on remote. It seems like a sealed unit but the tiny down arrow suggests the cover should slide away but I can't do it.

Presumably a Sky+ remote as you've posted on that board. Push the clip on the battery cover downwards and pull the battery cover off the body of the remote.

It is more lift away rather than slide away.

Hopefully you've done it - but it isn't sealed, it isn't a slide action and there's no arrow on any of my Sky+ remotes (which makes me wonder if that's not what you have)

If you do, there's a clip at the near end of the battery cover.

Get a thumbnail under the near side of the clip, push it forward (1) and lift (2). It can be quite difficult if the remote is old and has a lot of gunk under the cover.

I suspect it's a Sky Q or Sky Glass/Stream remote.
