Ive always had problems with the main sky Q box connecting to the multiroom mini box in the bedroom.
Around 5 years ago a sky engineer came and ran an ethernet cable between the 2 boxes but it still drops signal quite a lot. Ive recently reconnected an old Amstrad Hd box to the old dish cable in the bedroom and that works great, except it only gets the freeview channels.
Would sky be likely to give me a viewing card for the old type box if I cancelled the multiroom subscription but kept the main Sky Q box downstairs?

@MightyQuinni assumed that a Freeview box wouldn't give me any more channels than what I get on the old amstrad hd box.
Do some Freeview boxes give the option to subscribe to other channels (wife mo
stly watches crime dramas on alibi and such)?

You mean Freesat, not Freeview. Freeview is delivered via a TV aerial. You can find a list of the Freesat channels here: https://www.freesat.co.uk/channels
I'm not aware of an option to subscribe to any additional Freesat channels.

Hi @restyle A Freesat box will give you the ability to record, not available on the Sky HD box without a subscription.

With no apparant easy solution to this, I'm thinking the best way forward would be to cancel the multiroom subscription (currently costing around £15/m), & to get a NowTV box where the entertainment package (inluding Alibi & Sky Witness channels), costs around £10/m

Decided to get the Sky engineer in to have a look at he system, who found that the main SkyQ box was faulty - wouldnt talk to the Miniboxes properly & continuously dropped the wifi signal even when directly connected to the router via cable - Said it was a very common fault for that particular older 2Tb Sky Q box so we had a new box installed & also had to have a sky booster box to send the signal around 6m to one of the Mini boxes.
System now working as it should - Many thanks to the trully excellent sky engineer Ben.

NOWTV boxes are no longer available other than second-hand😉
