Wi-Fi or Ethernet cable

Just started setting up my sky streaming puck, however, every time we switched the TV on it said there was no Wi-Fi/ Ethernet connection, so we had to go through a long process of reestablishing connection.  To cut a long story short it turned out (as I worked it out) that having an Ethernet cable connected from the puck to the router and also the Wi-Fi enabled completely confused the puck and its answer was to say there was no connectivity! So I reset the puck Wi-Fi to off and left the Ethernet cable in...resulting in instant connection every time we switch on.  Why sky hadn't worked this out in puck testing is beyond me, anyway problem solved.

That's correct, if the Wi-Fi is enabled, it will prefer Wi-Fi over Ethernet. That's why on this forum, we always recommend turning off Wi-Fi and then rebooting the Sky device when you plug in an Ethernet cable to ensure it only uses the Ethernet connection.

At a guess, it may be that it prefers Wi-Fi over Ethernet because Ethernet is capped at 100Mbps, so customers with fibre broadband, for example, would likely get a faster connection via Wi-Fi (provided the Wi-Fi signal is strong and stable).

Not that the additional speed actually has any use ; )

You are correct, this should have been picked up a long time ago and shouldn't be happening @Ditchblow

Indeed - it's just the only logical reason my brain can come up with as to why it is this way and has never been fixed.

The pucks were designed to work off WiFi ..... unless you have some signal / coverage issue I've always found WiFi to work great for me !
