Why does Sky Stream change settings from 2160 to 1080 every night?
Why does Sky Stream change settings from 2160 to 1080 every night?
Is it because the Sky Stream puck is not fit for purpose?
Is it because the puck has not got enough memory?
Do Sky know about this and have programmed the setting change?
Will we be getting upgraded pucks?
Streaming True Detective, a nominally one hour programme, took me about 1h15m. This was because of the repeated blank screens with "wait for programme to load" or "there is a technical fault with this programme". These screen do not recover unless you back out of the programme and restart from the Playlist.
And no, it is not the network. I have gigabit capable FTP, capped at 330 Mbps connected to the puck by Cat 6 network.

@electricmonk the usual reason for this happening is not with the puck itself but a failure in the messaging on power up between the TV and the puck. Where the handshake fails the puck resets to the default 1080i setting. This can be caused by the TV taking slightly too long to come out of standby therefore the puck has stopped lstening so the handshake is missed. Try starting the TV before the puck which normally sorts this.
Despite the views of a few forum members the pucks do not appear to be under specified which isn't unlikely as very little runs on the unit itself the processing is done remotely on the servers. I am not entirely sure why you had issues with True Detective as Sky Atlantic metrial normally runs smoothly for me. There have been a few issues affecting customers using a fibre service from a smaller Altnet companies probably due to the way they use IP addresses could that be true in your case?

Thanks for the feedback. Appreciated.
Start up of the Sony A9 TV is initiated through the HDMi by the puck. So if there is a handshake issue it surely lies with the puck not the TV.
I started watching the latest True Detective yesterday morning. Perhaps the servers were overloaded with demand. Whatever the issue is, I am not getting the smooth streaming service that I am paying for.
I constantly get hiccups when streaming Sky programmes. With 'watch from start' they normally pause and then come back without having to restart. Never had problems streaming apps through the puck, just Sky.
My ISP is MacAce. Has been for over 20 years. They use their own servers on BT Openreach's wholesale system.
I have two smart TVs and an Apple TV4K which stream Apple TV+, iPlayer, Paramount, Prime, Netflix, ITVX, C4, C5, Disney etc.
I had never had any streaming issues until the Sky Stream puck.

Sadly this was my experience too. I gave Sky Stream a year. Very little improved. It remained the most problematic streaming service and most unreliable streaming hardware I've ever owned.
My solution was simply to cancel it completely. Problem solved.
