WhatsApp scam???

  • Anyone a had a WhatsApp out the blue offering a free complimentary engineer visit?  And asking for for information then advised to click on a link.

@dawn+forbes  I explained it in my previous posts that Sky are trialling this.  The message is also from Sky's verified business account.

 

The Blue Tick next to Sky UK confirms the account is legitimate.

@dawn+forbes  Your duplicate thread on the Stream board has been removed, however you didin't confirm if you have Stream or not, do you have Sky stream?

 

If so the Whats app message is genuine and part of a trial and you just need to follow the guidance within the message.

@dawn+forbes  So can you confirm that the whats app message was 1st contact from Sky, if so what is the original message?

 

If this is the Sky trial you won't be able to call to book an engineer as the CSA team you speak to wonp;t be able to book one.

Yes, Sky did contact me first. They mentioned it was a trial for a Wi-Fi home visit. As I previously stated, I am always cautious about clicking on links.

@dawn+forbes  If you could share the wording on the 1st whatsapp message that would be helpful, although as stated we are aware Sky is running a trial via whats app.

I was aware that Sky was offering a trial, but I believe it is always better to err on the side of caution than to risk being scammed.
