Using the back button to exit a program that is playing

When I am watching a Sky channel program, particularly a box set when I want to watch something else I will try to hit the back key to stop playback and return to the main screen.  When I do this the program continues to play even though I have returned to the main screen.  I have to hit the pause button to stop the program to be able to look for something else.  Maybe I'm being thick but I cannot for the life of me work out how to 'stop' as opposed to pause playback.  Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated please.

@Anita-K it is the way the interface is designed to work to allow peope to look at the main menu etc withoutvdtopping thecshow they are watching you can of coursecpress pause.. The quickest way back to the main menu is pressing home.

Re: Using the back button to exit a program that is playing

Hi

That's my issue too ( Sky stream)

At the end of a show when I dont want to carry on with it for a day/week, I press pause and it does pause. But when I go back to the same show the  next day/week, it has moved on sometimes by a whole series, but always by at least 1 or 2 episodes.

What is the proper way of not only pausing but actually "full-stopping" it so it's still in the same place when I return to it. No other streaming service I use keeps playing in the background after finishing a show and I don't understand how it can be useful to anyone

Thanks

The best way is to exit out of the app, so don't just pause and press the home button. For most apps you can keep pressing the back buttona dn it will gradually move to back to the app's home page. Then for some apps like ITV X pressing the back button on the home page, the app will close, for apps like IPlayer an exit confirmation box will be displayed and so Netflix it will being up the side menu which has a "Exit Netflix" option on it.
