Neither will actually play though, I'm getting the black screen & message "please wait for your program to load" then the blue screen & message "there is a technical issue, please try later"

Thank you! And, if you don't mind, could you tell me which package(s) you pay for?

Sky Ultimate TV
UHD & Dolby Atmos (via a free 3 month offer)
Ad Skip (via 4 month free trial)

Thanks for that. Now, I wonder if upgrading to Ultimate will give me the UHD option. No point if I can't actually play it like you, though!

It wouldn't play when I tried earlier today, it has been fine when I watch day of the jackal over the past few weeks. Not sure what the issue is today though.

@Jonnyb did you manage to solve this?
We recently moved to Stream from Q and got Essentials. I just took out a 2 month free trial of UHD and having a similar problem to you. Sports channels work fine, even though I get a message saying they can't play on this device, but no on demand shows are displaying as UHD.

I didn't get a resolution, other than being told by Sky that the UHD upgrade only applies to non-sport TV shows if you take the Ultimate package.
I continue to believe they've totally forgotten to update their website to ensure you can't choose the UHD upgrade if you've only gone for the £15 Essential package.
The UHD upgrade small print still reads "Applies to Sky Entertainment, Sky Cinema and Sky Sports only", when Sky Entertainment isn't a package that exists any more.
As someone who used to design user journeys on websites, it's pretty staggering that no one at Sky seems to have noticed!

Trust me, it really isn't!
