Hi all
I have Sky UHD through satellite and TNT Sports UHD through their streaming box. The UHD picture quality on TNT is far superior and I'm wondering if it's due to the satellite.
I'll happily switch to Sky Stream if the picture quality is as good as TNT. Anybody got both and can let me know?
TIA

Posted by a Superuser, not a Sky employee. Find out more@mweir Unfortunately no one can have both Sky Q & stream as it's not allowed so a side by side comparison can't be made.
UHD on stream is on a par with the satellite delivered UHD live sports channels.

@GD1 sorry, I mean people who have both streaming service TNT Sports UHD and Sky Stream UHD and can give me a picture quality comparison.
as I say, my Sky UHD is through my SkyQ box and the picture quality isn't a patch on TNT Sports UHD. I was hoping someone could give me better news about the Sky Stream UHD quality

@mweir I've got Stream and TNT and the picture quality is outstanding and far superior to TNT Sport Ultimate on BT TV...

@Nigelb1972 that's good to know as I think TNT Sports is excellent quality so is Sky Stream is even better then I'm in. Sky Q satellite UHD is barely HD quality

@mweir a gentle advisory though, Sky Stream uses HLG as the HDR codec so make sure your TV is compatible. If it is, the UHD quality is outstanding...

@Nigelb1972 Cheers, I've got 2 LG OLEDs and a Samsung Qled so I'm fine on that front 👍

Hey- I've had Sky Q (Satellite) UHD, Sky Stream (UHD), and I've also watched TNT Ultimate (UHD) through all formats.
Sky Sports is outstanding on stream for UHD.
TNT Sports Ultimate on Stream, Satellite and Discovery + app is not as good as Sky Sports is- I believe this is because Sky Stream and Q HDR format is HLG, whereas TNT Sports is filmed in a different HDR format and therefore it loses something when converted to HLG of Sky.
The best picture I ever had for TNT Sport was when it was with the BT App before Discovery brought them out. I'm guessing therefore your BT Box probably gives you that same amazing picture - so the best TNT Ultimate picture will be on there. I'd say Sky Sports UHD on Stream is also excellent now.
Just a shame we can't seem to nail both on on platform!!

The camera's capture the raw footage with higher dynamic ranges than TV's can typically display and the software codec's are added during broadcast. HDR10 uses more bandwidth than HLG as it was designed ebe a standard for UHD Blu-ray but HLG was designed by Nikkon and BBC to be used for broadcast content and is comparable to, if not better than HDR10 for broadcast purposes as it uses less bandwidth.
Dolby Vision again uses more bandwidth and is probably the best quality HDR codec with HDR10+ following closely behind.
BT Sport used to use HDR10 as their codec of choice but Sky re-broadcast the source material in HLG.
Personally, I've had BT Sport delivered via their app, the BT TV UHD Youview box and their Pro Box and the best picture quality has been via Sky Stream using HLG..
The quality is also dependent on high much video compression and audio compression is used. Netflix used heavy compression so their UHD content is barely above Blu-ray HD for me.
Sky & AppleTV have the best compromise for me with Amazon Prime close behind.

@SKYLJM It is likely due to Stream using 36 bit colour as opposed to Q using 24 bit colour. UHD/HLG sports is outstanding.
