Re: UHD HDR on Sky Stream: A Real Problem

Posted by a Superuser, not a Sky employee. Find out more

On my Panasonic TV, 16 yo DX902,  HLG plays perfectly.  There is a setting HDMI HDR setting under setup on the main menu of the TV where I can set HDR On/Off.  Is there such a setting on other brands?  I also moved from Q to Stream and if anything the HLG is better than on Q for the F1 UHD channel.  Pic for reference(might take awhile to get through)

Re: UHD HDR on Sky Stream: A Real Problem

I'm sorry to be the barer of bad news, but this problem lies soley with your TV.

I had the same issue with a reasonably modern Samsung TV, however the TV just wasn't capable of producing good HDR and the brightness required.

I then upgraded to an OLED TV (LG A2), which you can pick up now for about £500 and the difference was mindblowing HDR content looks incredible.

Ok, my projector has the option to disable HDR rather than auto. Fixes the problem for both sky F1 live and BBC UHD. Turns out projector nits are low hundreds so HLG will never be any good.

Just need to switch the HDR setting manually between content. Not the end of the world.

Re: UHD HDR on Sky Stream: A Real Problem

  • Thank you I gave my old [9 months] to my youngest daughter and bought a Samsung oled s90d television and HDR all fine now.
  • Sky say they will reduce my Sky Sports bill by £7 a month until the end of my contract but I have not had an email confirming it yet?
