I signed up for the sky account but my problem is that even though I have a smart TV it's not a sky TV. It's an LG smart TV, does this affect being able to steam and use apps?

If you signed up to Sky Stream, Sky will send you a puck which connects to your TV via an HDMI cable, so providing your TV has HDMI connectors you can connect the puck and use the service.
