To SKY Please Remove the Standby Stuff on SKY Stream

The standby that's is set at 3 hours is on the EE TV Pro Box(YouView) by EE/BT, its the default but you can change it from 1 hour, up to 12 hours, please enable it so we can change it too and change the standby if you pause live TV, I can't pause it so if I go and make a cup of tea or food, I then have to keep it playing and remember where I was in the TV program when I left the room and then rewind it, so no point of the pause button, if you can't pause it and if the box goes off you can watch where left off only if you remember to use Watch from Start button and you do not always remember, and not everything is on it like ITV News.
You should be able to pause the program as long as you want, the whole idea of time-shifting, very werid.

This is doing my head in, I am happy with SKY Stream so far and I have had it for a year now, I do like it but you need to Belief In Better... 🙂
It drives people that have Autism/ADHD nuts... 😞

I am not a Sky Engineer but at one time wanted to be one or a BT Engineer... 🙂

I like working things out like its a puzzle... 🙂

I was a PC Engineer and fix peoples PCs by going to there house, Windows XP was known to slow down PCs over time and clog up the PCs RAM and its start-up and had to reinstall it for the customer, the only way you could fix WinXP.

I now work on Mini Retro Consoles(replica retro consoles and computers) and modify them with PCUAE - https://projectcarouselusb.eu

Very much agree with you @spannernick1 we shouldnt have to pick up the controller during a film / sport event etc to stop the TV going on standby, its very annoying, especially for neurdivergent folks

Re: To SKY Please Remove the Standby Stuff on SKY Stream

As a software/hardware engineer I do find some of the faults quite amusing, even though they are basically just so annoying.

I think the device needs a lot more processor power and memory. The processor power is need to get rid of some of the large pauses, although more RAM and possibly a better operating system would solve this. Maybe it is suffering with memory leaks etc., as it tends to get much slower when navigating menus after a few days.

More RAM would enable the pause function to actually work properly. Most people pause the TV to finish making dinner etc., and by the time you get back to the box it has switched itself off. It would probably be better if it just went back to playback.

When I use fast forward and rewind I sometimes lose picture, then I have to go back to the menu and restart the program. But then I generally lose sound. A power cycle is the only thing that fixes thing.

I had one interesting evening where the playback side of the box would only play one channel. I could go back to the menu, look through the TV guide, play something from an app, but every time I went back to trying to play live TV it was still stuck on the same channel. I tried restarting the box using the menu but again no change. I think the chip/FPGA that streams/plays the live TV was locked, and even restarting the other half of the box didnt fix it. Again a power cycle was required.

The box would benefit from a better processor, lots mores RAM, and quite a few software tweaks.

Possibly they could add a function which did a full reset (every device in the puck) once a day during the night (or at a fixed time). A lot of routers have this function.

Re: To SKY Please Remove the Standby Stuff on SKY Stream

As a QC engineer I wonder if anyone  (including the devs) ever test anything for any lentgh of time before tossing a firmware update over the wall....

Slow UI Updates is the new regression....
