Stream issues with TP Link?

I fairly regularly have issues with my Sky Stream. Here's a summary:

Turning on Stream, I'm presented with a blue screen saying there's no internet connection. I then go into settings and it says there is a connection, but channels still don't load. I'll repeat this a few times, sometimes I get lucky and it starts, other times I reset the Stream. I'll often be fine watching one channel, then I'll come across a similar issue with connection when trying to change channel.

I have a TV slightly further away from the WiFi than the Stream which seems to be able to stream anything perfectly 100% of the time.

I spoke with Sky technical support and they said that Stream has some issues if you're using a TP Link router, it doesn't like mesh networks and if you want to use an Ethernet cable with the Stream you can only use a really short run of Ethernet cable.

Is the hardware really that bad? I feel like I only have to breath on it and it loses connection to the WiFi.

And secondly, can anybody recommend a really good mesh system that works well with Stream?

Re: Stream issues with TP Link?

The Sky Stream system is sensitive and more than a little fragile🤔

A combination of NOWTV and streaming apps might provide a more robust service for you😉

Grrr, I just moved from this setup to sky and I'm having major regrets! Can't even watch live TV without a problem.

Re: Stream issues with TP Link?

I'm afraid not. The hardware is so flakey I just gave up in the end. I did get some substantial discounts from Sky while I was still with them (it sounds like a lot of people have problems with Stream), but once it was back at full price there was no way I was paying for that piece of junk.

The alternative is absolutely any other streaming service you can think of as they all work perfectly. I can stream on any other apps on my TV even with the router right at the opposite end of the house.

I don't understand the comment if you want to use an Ethernet cable with the Stream you can only use a really short run of Ethernet cable. My sky Puck is connected via a 25m ethernet cable to my sky router via an unmanaged switch and  appears to run correctly. I'm on, according to the BT wholesale speed tester, a part fibre connection of 54Mb/s.. I ran the ethernet cable on the outside of the house.

Re: Stream issues with TP Link?

I'm about to disconnect my tp link to see if it makes a difference, but my question is, can I just disconnect it from the sky stream puck or do I have to disconnect from everything and have all my devices connected to the sky router?

Either way what a pain

Re: Stream issues with TP Link?

I would try connecting directly to the router if you can, so not via any kind of mesh network or extender. Even then I still had issues.

I might try the service again at some point,  but might wait for a new hardware release. Seems they cut a lot of costs on this one.

Re: Stream issues with TP Link?

Yeah, I've pretty much answered my own question.

I connected tv/sky stream to my sky wifi , and the TV is now worse, not loading picture just audio.

I am so so angry, I'm paying a premium for the best broadband sky offers and now I'm being told kit that I also paid hundreds for (my mesh) that should be none of skys business is defunct with my broadband.

How much I miss now broadband and all the packages !

Re: Stream issues with TP Link?

I moved to Three 5G broadband and couldn't be happier. It's super quick, and as it's 5G I can move the router anywhere (in your case you could move it nearer the Sky box)
