The Digital Markets, Competition and Consumers Act 2024 is a government bill which has a clause which basically allows a customer to leave any streaming contract that isn't paid for fully in advance. No customer pays for a full 18 months of Sky Entertainment in advance so there is a legal requirement for Sky to allow you to leave such a contract early.
Does this apply to Sky Q as well, cancel 18 month contracts early without penalty?

As it's not a streaming service I'd guess not.

I've not read any of it to be clear, the actual bill is over 400 pages with multiple amendment documents posted. Most (all) of it is over my head so I'll leave it to people who understand (and god help us) enjoy reading that sort of thing. I just can't see it affecting Q. It does leave Virgin Media in an interesting position however.

Posted by a Superuser, not a Sky employee. Find out more@Anonymous & @Steve93 when an Act has received royal assent it doesnt mean it is fully in force instantly. This act has given the next goverment powers which they can choose to use by making regulations until those are laid before parliament nothing much happend. Often complicated Acts take years to be fully put into force.
The Sky Stream contract is not a simple streaming service like Netflix as it involves loan of equipment so like Sky Q may not be covered. I am sure Sky's lawters will be studying the new legislation closely.

Switched it on an hour ago and still no tv reception. This is a regular event and I'm now looking at other providers. It's an appalling service.

Been with Sky 20+ years, had to move to Stream last year as cannot have Sky + due to tall trees right outside the property. Am cancelling, sick and tired of not being able to get TV. The fixes online work only some of the time and in 2024 it's not reasonable to charge someone to spend over an hour trying to get BBC1......

I've got 2 Stream boxes, working well, all be it a little slow on Itvx, picture a lot better than Q, 1 box has locked up once but came back within seconds, very happy
wonder if it's because I'm on Virgin gig1 & the hub is next to the stream box, also stream box in the kitchen speed 375mbps when checking via Netflix
