Re: Sky stream standby mode

I've just moved to Sky Stream, and am still learning how to use it. I rarely pause live TV, but it sounds like the power saving is a bit too aggressive. The puck's power draw must be negligible, even when actively in use. I have other devices, which use a lot more power, and although they may recommend the power saving features, they are never forced on you.

Re: Sky stream standby mode

Omg ! Don't invite complaints .. this is a discussion group and I was pleased to find that others were suffering the same fate as myself .. as I first thought my pick was faulty .. SKY need to put this right .. what is the point of a pause on programmes if it continually turns off.  Incidentally I checked on the page where they are encouraging you to take stream .. and it still says you can pause it for 45 minutes !!! My puck just turned off the tv when I went to make a cup of tea .. no notice on screen at all .. about 10 minutes if that ... so annoying ...

I think the more complaints the better .. as this is not what they are promoting for the streaming service.

Re: Sky stream standby mode

Completely agree that the time limits are too aggressive. I couldn't even watch a long film last weekend without the warning popping up. Remote was across the other side of the room!  Seems odd that you can't disable it and I don't think it's an eco thing as you can turn off  'Overnight Power Saving' and in doing so, it warns that the device will consume more power. Why can we do that but not disable the time limits. Seems to me that they have set them based on someone's opinion of what they think everyone needs

Re: Sky stream standby mode

The cynic in me still believes it to do with the ads .. I used to watch the golf then pause it for 40 mins then as I have paid for ad skipping .. I'd then catch up watching the players I wanted to see and skipping the ads .. this now stops that as it's not worth the risk of it switching off completely and actually pointless pausing for just 5 or 10 minutes .. the best option now is to take the choice to  start from beginning of the program and skip through what I want to watch .. but still don't see that they have the right to do this ... usually technology is used to give you more choice but this  actually is ensuring you have less ... not happy

Re: Sky stream standby mode

Do we know if there's any update on this, please? I just rejoined Sky after a year away. I had Sky Q before and now have the Sky Stream Puck.

It is driving me up the wall when I pause a programme and after maybe 15 mins it has gone into standby mode and I then lose where I am in the programme. Often, if it's live TV I've paused, or a programme where I've clicked "Watch from the start" I end up not being able to get back to where I was and subsequently missing the programme I want to watch.

I believe Sky Q allowed you to pause for an hour and it would be about 4hrs before it went into standby mode.

15 minutes (or whatever the short time is now) is absolutely ridiculous and incredibly annoying.

24hrs with Sky stream and this is already a major disadvantage for me. I live alone so often back and forth to the kitchen if cooking and being able to pause was a Godsend.

It losing the programme because the paused programme has switched to standby after 15 mins is terrible.

Re: Sky stream standby mode

The sky stream puck has a few inerrant problems that have not been addressed from day one of its release. I and many others have been right to top of the complaints process and more or less had the same answer we are awaiting a software update by our engineers. Software updates have come and gone but most of the issues still remain. It's a classic David and Goliath situation. While people are subscribing in there thousands nothing will be done.

Re: Sky stream standby mode

But it used to work properly .. I've had Sky stream for about 18 months and I could always pause it for up to about 40 minutes - it never used to put the tv on standby. This only started about 3 months ago ... Sky have done something to stop us scrolling through the ads ..  it's a stitch up. Also every morning I  have to switch the puck off at the wall and on again because the bloody remote won't turn it on .. the puck appears to be on but is unresponsive .. this has happened at the same time as the other problem .. they need to sort it out ... 😡

Re: Sky stream standby mode

I understand your frustration. It seems to me Sky got it all wrong with the whole design of the puck which was originally a add-on for the original Sky glass set up. The same puck is being used for Sky stream. The concept is brilliant, but has technical issues which have not been addressed since day one. In my opinion I don't think they can improve the puck any further.

The Sky stream puck is usable with these flaws, but has I mentioned in my last post it's a David and Goliath situation. Sky can only continue to operate by keeping existing customers happy or enlist more subscribers to the Sky stream family.

Couple of points on Sky subscriptions. In 2019 they had 12.7 million subscribers, in 2025 it's 5.8 million subscribers, now to me that's a considerable drop in its customer base, in fact it's a decline that Sky should be worried about.

Has for your complaint like many others send an email to the complaints department and you will get the same answer,(it's being looked at by our engineers) nothing gets done. Why because people are subscribing in there thousands not knowing the problems they are going to encounter. Biggest case of miss selling I have ever encountered.

Re: Sky stream standby mode

I have had the same puck for a few years so same hardware. As stated before, live pause used to allow 25 mins of pause then the programme would resume. Now it will only pause for 10 mins, programme doesn't resume and TV goes into standby mode. It was as a result of a software update a few months ago that this new 'feature' was imposed on us. It may be that the software and stuff running in the background is now so bloated that the memory can't buffer a programme for more than 10 minutes. But that doesn't excuse the fact that the software now turns the TV off. It could buffer for 10 minutes, resume the programme, clear the buffer / memory.

Hi @JennyMeTicklerTin The good news is that there is an update (UI 3.79.0) that has just started rolling out which alters the pause time.  I have just received the update and have checked the pause function and can confirm that my puck paused for exactly  25 minutes and then continued playing the programme I was watching which is a great improvement from the 10 minutes and then shutting down.

The update will be rolling out in batches as usual so keep a look out in your system management settings to see when you receive it.

Re: Sky stream standby mode

That's great news.

I'm new to Sky Stream with the puck (signed up last month (Oct)).

I'm hoping I'll also be able to get this update because pausing for 10 mins then receiving the black HDMI screen of death is driving me up the wall.

Can I just double check that the photo attached reflects what everyone else is referring to? I want to ensure I'm not talking about a different issue completely as I'm not very tech savvy (sorry).
