Re: Sky stream - is it really this rubbish??

Sky stream is truely an abomination even when it's working. I put up with it for a day and then went back to sky q. You realise just how good and mature a service sky q is when you've endured sky stream/glass.
Want to play back later a 10  minute segment of one programme on sky stream? You can't, it adds the entire series and every series  to your playlist every single time. Try adding a movie to your playlist to watch later, it constantly directs you to sky store. It forces you to watch adverts. I will move to another provider that offers tradional recording if sky ever try to force me off sky q.

Sky won't "force" you off Q, you will have to leave simply because the satellites Sky use will not be outputting a signal. This will not happen till 2029 at the earliest...... but it will happen. Glass/Stream will not be the only way to access Sky when that happens, there's Now and other providers.

Re: Sky stream - is it really this rubbish??

I have had Sky Stream for a couple of weeks now and I have a couple of observations:

1. Network connectivity (ethernet) is terrible especially on startup, it seems to timeout when trying to get its ip address via the DHCP server on the router - it seems to work ok if you power-cycle the device. Normally you would get round this by fixing your ip address and extending DHCP leasetimes but sadly Sky does not give you access to fix your ip address, I managed to do this by binding the MAC address to an IP address on my router and extending the leasetime.  Its not perfect but seems much more reliable than it was.  I assume this would also help on wireless connection.  I do not seem to get any issues around programs stuttering or anything like that once the connection is up and running.  To be fair Sky Q caused even more network issues (I had 1 main box and 3 minis) but at least I could fix the ip address.....  Adding the ability to fix the ip address should be a small task and hopefully will happen one day,.

2. The user interface is painful.  It takes may too many steps to actually get to anything, just getting to the guide and then a tv station takes around 8 clicks.  The "recording" method is awful and seems unreliable, again finding anything you have "recorded" is a tortuous process.  They really need to get some people who understand how to build user interfaces.....

3. Sky included the ad-skipping on my original order even though I said no thanks - made my order over the phone.  This has now been removed.

4. Sadly F1 legacy entitlement has now gone so even though my basic package is cheaper, once you add in the cost of the F1 channel it is about the same cost.

With regards point 2. When coming out of standby, you can select your last viewed channel by clicking once to the left. That is much quicker than scrolling down to the EPG.

If anyone is thinking of Sky Stream, do your research, it's appalling, I'm having problems with it every day. Its also a very unhelpful user interface, to many clicks to get where you want to be, it also didnt help just after agreeing a deal to move to Stream they put up the price by 14%. I'm stuck with this rubbish for another 20 months, I came from SKY HD so I cant even go back to Q.  Avoid.

Re: Sky stream - is it really this rubbish??

I agree - Its pants! - I think SKY have a major issue with the puck unit and streaming service due to hardware and software design issues. I have had the exact same issues for past 6 months with 2 new puck units issued. All the usual tech solutions (cables, wifi distance, speed etc) have been exausted. The puck unit is lierally 5 meters away from the router with nothing inbetween. Network tests show no drop out. Yet images freeze, sound drops, constant grey screen and constant reboots etc etc...same with 2 new puck units. I think SKY have serious design flaws in this hardware and streaming service. Customer support is none existant. Signed up for 2 years but seriously considering taking a hit on exit charges just to get away from SKY. - Its a shame as SKY have good programming and sport. But their hardware and software issues will see lots and lots of customers voting with thier feet. Absolute Service Rubbish SKY! - Not that they give a monkey's once they've tied you into a contract.

Stream was launched in October 2021: it's now a mature platform but one which a percentage of households has issues with.

Signed up for 2 years but seriously considering taking a hit on exit charges just to get away from SKY.

Sky will accept a customer arguing persistently for early exit without penalty where the product hasn't been made to work:  that's the corollary to not having the 'engineers' of the previous satellite platforms.

There are other ways to receive Sky's programming. Now as a prime example. If you have BT or EE broadband there's EETV as well. Just choose whatever is good for you, no need to stick with Stream if it's causing you problems.

Re: Sky stream - is it really this rubbish??

If Sky just invested a bit more into the hardware and software of Sky Stream I really think they would have a product that could dominate the market. A reliable streaming device that tracks what you're watching across multiple services and offering live tv. And I think having 3 of the biggest streamers in one bundle is appealing to people. But it just isn't good enough. And the judder! If you're pushing for people to watch these services on your device then you need to be able to play their content at the correct frame rate.

Perhaps worth remembering that Glass and Stream launched at a particularly challenging time right at the end of the pandemic: that really didn't help with product specification, manufacturing and testing.

Re: Sky stream - is it really this rubbish??

The pandemic is not really an excuse. SKY is making millions by tying in customers to 2 year contracts and supplying poor sub-standard hardware they developed and invested in, sitting on top of an unreliable streaming platform. All of the customer complaints about the exact same issues on this message community alone, is clear evidence that the technology being used by SKY is fundamentally flawed. If this was evidence presented in a court case, SKY would have been found guilty of deception a long time ago. What they offer, sell and then deliver are miles apart!

Uh, it's 'evidence' of the platform not working well for those users.

If this was evidence presented in a court case, SKY would have been found guilty of deception a long time ago.

I'd imagine they'd choose to present 'evidence' from many hundreds of thousands of users who don't encounter such issues and so rarely post on support forums...
