Sky Streaming Puck

I have just signed up for Sky Streaming and they will send me a Puck.  Will it record programmes like my Sky+ HD box does?  Is there a users manual for the puck online? Will my Sky+ box transfer my recorded programmes or will I lose them all?

Hi @Graylione I was in the same predicament as you with loads of things recorded on my Sky Q box.

To get around this before activating my Stream Glass/Puck I took photos of all my Sky Q recordings menus.  When I activated my Stream Glass and I lost access to the Sky Q recordings I was able to use the photos to remember what programmes I had previously recorded and was then able to search the streaming platform for them and added them to my Glass/Puck paylist.

There was only 1 programme I was unable to find on Stream but later I found it on one of the Apps.

@Graylione there's no local recording of programmes like Sky+HD. The Puck has no hard drive or means of storage. It works a bit like Netflix where you add programmes you want to watch later to a Playlist. Those programmes are then streamed directly to your Puck when you want to watch them.

There are a series of video guides on the main features of the Puck which you can select from the Puck's Home Screen.

Your recordings on your Sky+HD box are lost, I'm afraid. You do, however, still have access to any content you've purchased from the Sky Store.

Re: Sky Streaming Puck

AS I will still have my Sky+ HD box, with its 2TB drive and lots of recordings, will I still be able to use it to watch the recordings?  I asked the Sky rep on the phone if I could still access them and she said that they would all be "transferred".  Was she telling porkies?

@Graylione I'm afraid your Sky+ subscription will be cancelled when you activate Sky Stream. At that point your recordings won't be accessible, I'm afraid.

Sadly Sky's advisers don't always know the ins and outs of Sky+ (perhaps unsuprising as it's an obsolete product now).

Yes, I'm afraid you were misinformed. Nothing can be "transferred" from a Sky+ HD box to a Stream puck.

At best you will need to note down everything you have recorded on the +HD box then manually do a search on the Stream puck to see if any of them are available to stream. You can create a playlist to make things easier to find later but there's no guarantee that everything will be available when you want to watch it. There are different rules for recording and streaming. Any movies you have recorded for example may only be available to stream on a separate paid-for subscription service - it depends on who owns the streaming rights at the time.

You may be able to watch some of the recordings on your +HD box as long as they were recorded from a non-encrypted free to air channel, but your box will probably eventually stop working if it doesn't have an active account attached to it.

Re: Sky Streaming Puck

Basically I was "Sold" the streamimg service under false pretences.  I need to contact them to sort it out, or else delay the activation until I've seen my old recordings!
